paul chambers first reporter on the scene and joins us now. its right near sir francis drake boulevard. >> reporter: access is really busy. this area is more residential but there are a lot of cars passing through. you can see the repair crews just arrived on scene with in the last five minutes. basically they are getting ready to do a lot of repairing. things are under control with the water main break but there will be a lot of clean up. let's look at video. this all started at 2:15 when the fire department got a call of water flooding a roadway. once on scene firefighters say the water was jetting out at least eight feet in the air. crews were able to get a handle on the situation by shutting off a nearby valve. it's unclear if someone hit a fire hydrant or if it just gave

way. there is still a chance a sink hole may develop. >> it boiled up asphalt. they will have to dig that out and repair the main. >> firefighters say some water was coming out about -- the water was coming out about 1500- gallons a minute for at least an hour and a half. the water is cut off in the area that will leave about a dozen houses without water but the good news is the storm drains appear to be working so there appears to be no flooding for anyone. we come out here live with in the last five to ten crews just arrived on scene. they will do a lost work because the area you are look has a lot of buckling in the road, a lot of hills sun and evenness. they will be back out repairing, ripping that out and have to put a new road out here. they say doing that will take about eight to ten hours to do that totally. we will be out here as they start the construction part of

this area and let you know the latest as it develops. . ktvu channel 2news. >> also this morning the chp is looking for two hit and run drivers who struck and killed an elderly man. that happened at about 8:45 last night on interstate 980 at the 17th on-ramp. police say two drivers hit the man but didn't stop to help. a third driver then stayed at the scene. the victim has not been identified but he may have been homeless. >> a high school teacher returns to court on charges of drunk driving possession of lsd. the 51-year-old adviced students. he was stopped after running a red light allegedly. he was arrested on dui charges. when he turned in a bottle of breath mints the deputy thought it had drugs, they tested positive for lsd. he no longer works in the school district. senate manager of a pizza

restaurant has been arrested after he put a hidden camera in an employee bathroom. police arrested him last week after an employee found the camera at the restaurant. >> tonight the san jose sharks play their first game back home at the shark tank in nine months. we are there in san jose where we know people are cited because the game is sold out. >> reporter: the streets are empty right now but tonight it's going to be packed with people wearing teal and black. here they put up a huge shark banner for everybody to see. the sharks and the rest of the nhl teams had not played in three and a half months because the owners and player's union couldn't come up with a collective baring baring agreement. tonight will be their first home game at hp for the season.

we caught up with one fan. >> i got season tickets, taking my son tonight. i have actually a cool sign that i made for my window here. it's a neon sign i put up sometimes for the playoffs or for a special game and it'll be up tonight. >> reporter: the return of the sharks also signaled a boost for downtown businesses like hotels, restaurants and bars who count on all the extra patrons on game night. hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue was lost because of the lock out. concession stand employees are also relieved because they also get to come back to work. tonight's game for the sharks, they are playing the phoenix coyotes and it starts at 7:30 tonight. coming up in the next hour we will have more reaction from fans. reporting live from downtown. ktvu channel 2news. >> all right. time now 7:06. let's go to sal who is checking traffic and checking on the east shore.

>> that's right. right now traffic is -- look to what -- the traffic is doing pretty well if you are driving on the east shore freeway. the traffic times getting a little more robust if you will. it's about a 15 minute drive from the richmond area . when you get there it's about a ten minute delay.  the toll plaza backed up. if you are on the peninsula, southbound direction is getting busier from 238 down to fremont. you will see more slow traffic. southbound 101 still looks good as you drive, only an eight minute drive time. >> it's a gloomy start. the sunrise at 7:20, still a bit gray and dark. we will remain partly sunny mostly cloudy for the afternoon. for most of us the showers have ended in its wake we are

dealing with fog. visibility a tough call getting through areas like santa rosa, visibility down to between a half mile and a mile. i want to track some of that rain. we are looking at it here. it's moved south for the most part over monterey, but continue to watch a few scattered showers over highway 101. this will have the -- have you with your wind shield wipers going. it'll continue in to the next hour or so. it's slowly sliding south. most of us remain dry with mostly cloudy skies. dealing with fog in the wake of yesterday's system. 48 degrees this -- just showed you -- 48napa, 53 concord, low 50s redwood. these numbers starting out like what we felt yesterday. slightly warmer some cases. what's in store for today? we have the patchy fog this morning. a few showers will remain and they will linger into the afternoon and mix of sun and clouds expected for the second half of the day.

we will remain unsettled into the weekend. i will take new to the weekend. starting it up the timestamp says 7:00 a.m. in to the afternoon, two, three i'm noticing pockets of rain starting to show up over the bay area. we are getting the wrap around motion. we are drying in to friday. friday is mainly dry over the bay area. mostly cloudy and take a look at what's happening here to the north. this is the system that could bring us a few scattered source, notice it dropping in. notice not a lot of rain involved but the temperatures will be cooler and because it's the weekend it'll lead in the slight possibility for you. here is a look at extended forecast. temperatures will stay in the upper 50s to low 60's for today and tomorrow. then into the weekend that chance for rain and a cooler storm so this is going to bring cooler weather, mid to upper 50s for the afternoon. >> thank you. in two hours the governor will lay out his vision for the

future of california. in his address he is expected to cover education funding upgrading the state's infrastructure. we are live from the state capitol. >> reporter: good morning. yes, today's state of the state will be a whole lot different than the state of the state address last year. remember that last year the governor was in a full court press all year to try to convince voters to approve a tax hike to deal with california's bumming. well, he successfully succeeded in doing that. so now his clout couldn't be lier and today we expect him to outline his vision on other issues beyond what last year was which was all about taxes and that's going to include as you said education, a big one. he is going to reveal a plan we expect that will offer more money and resources to poorer schools or those student who are more in need than others and also to address public

universities to try to compel them to cut costs to students as well as making courses more prevalent online. infrastructure is another big one as he is expected to push for high speed rail and to talk act water issues and trying to build two massive tunnels to move water from northern california to southern california. part of today's state of the state address will be very positive in tone. the governor expected to point out that california is leading the nation in job growth and that the state's credit rating has improved dramaticly over the past several years. last but not least with that good news, we are also expecting the governor to urge some caution to his fellow democratic lawmaker who have a super majority here in side the capitol as we know jerry brown has always been a very conservative man when it comes to spending with in your means. we are kind of expecting that

newsroom. >> reporter: officials in south korea analyzed a debrief and said north korea was testing for a missile that could travel 6200 miles which is far enough to reach the west coast. leaders say americans shouldn't be concerned at this point. they say a lot of work has to be done before north korea has the technology to mount a nuclear warhead on a missile . they are angry after the united states supported the un security council's move on tuesday that expanded sanctions against them for last month's rocket lawn. . on television a statement from the government of north korea saying they would settle the problem was problems with the united states with force not with words. >> a new phase of the anti united states struggle that has lasted century after century will target against the united states, the sworn enemy of the

connecticut looking in to the sandy hook shooting has it's first meeting today. the commission will hear today from experts who sat on similar commissions after mass shootings in colorado and virginia. the 16 member panel is supposed to give connecticut's governor a list of recommendations regarding school safety, mental health and gun violence prevention by march 15th. time now 7:17, and in just an hour diane feinstein will resume her fight for a ban on assault weapons. she will introduce a bill on the floor. it's designed to stop the sale, transfer and making of military style assault weapons. she introduced a similar bill back in 1993 shortly after a mass shooting at a san francisco law firm. we will have live coverage of her newest assault weapon bill at 8:15. >> some parents at one california school district are questioning the district's buying of more than a dozen

assault weapons. fontana officials say they bought 14 assault weapons to protect students in the event of an attack. they say they will be kept in locked safes on campus for responding police but some parents are concerned that students could find a way to access them. >> we do have children that come with sometimes plastic weapons or real weapons and does that make them -- put them at risk of being -- as our chief has stated last night being stopped and killed? >> the weapons cost a thousand dollars each. police say they have the ability to go through body armor. today the house in rhode island will vote on legislation legalizing same sex marriage. it's expected to pass in the house but unknown if in the senate. lance armstrong lied for years about doping and now some

unhappy customers who bought his books want under money back. two men are spearheading a lawsuit against him. they say they would have never bought his books if they knew the true story. in his books he strongly denied doping to win the tour de france but last week he came clean. >> the faa said boeing's 787 won't be flying again until they find what cause several safety problems including fires and that the problems are fixed. the congressman who represents the district where boeing builds the 787's said he has been told that the problem will be fixed soon. he said the faa and boeing have told him that. delta talking with boeing about buying one billion dollars worth of jets but it's also talking to the european rival air bus. the country's second largest airline is look for a deal to exchange some of its smaller regional jets for current versions of the 737 and air bus

. welcome back to the -- mornings on two. we are learning new details about the chandra levy murder case. new details about the man convicted of murdering her. reportedly there is new information that could undermine the testimony of a prosecution witness.

a 2010 jury found the suspect guilty of killing levy back in 2001. her disappearance drew national attention when investigators learned she had been having an affair with a former congressman. >> today the golden gate bridge district board is expected to approve a plan to repair rusted sections of the bridge. this month inspectors found rust damage plate that helps stabilize the bridge. it was going to be part of a maintenance project scheduled to start later this year but now inspect others say the work needs to be done sooner. the bay bridge birthy party now includes a light show. the lights are part of an 8 million-dollar light project to mark the bridge's 75th anniversary. they will be turned on for about seven hours each night after it's done in march. >> checking in on the toll plaza. >> it's getting crowded, it has been crowded for the last hour after they turned the

lights on and it's backed up to about the 880 over crossing but you can see not all the lanes are backed up. this is good news for you and sometimes when this happens after eight we have a lighter than usual commute. if you are driving in san francisco, northbound 101 looks good. little bit of crowding, we have been looking at the traffic times in the east bay and on the peninsula. not all that bad and then across the bay between 238, this is 23 minutes of getting around to the normal time of about 30 minutes. if it gets more than 30 we will let you know because that's -- usually it takes an accident for that to get heavier. 7:24, let's go to rosemary. >> the sun is up but not shining over the bay area. we will have partly sunny skies for the entire afternoon and perhaps a stray shower giving you a live look there at all that gray. temperatures holding in the

. welcome back. time now is 7:59, we have new information about the search for the man who tried to kidnap a 13-year-old. police say the girl was walking near east saint james street early friday morning when a man grabbed her and dragged her into a driveway. we just learned about a possible new lead from a neighbor. >> reporter: yeah. she said her husband when he found about this suspect he called police. he let them know he had an idea of who this person could actually be. he didn't call earlier because nobody knew about this case until recently and that's because police withheld the information for a week because of the hopes that -- happened last week by a woman who said someone tried to snatch her child so they wanted to make sure this case was real. last friday morning around six a neighbors say they heard the

screams on east saint james and east 33ered. a man tried to kidnap a 13-year- old on her way to school. the girl noticed that a man was following her. she called her friend and then the man grabbed her, dragged her ten to 15 feet down a driveway. she was able to break free and run. one neighbor said that she has seen a suspicious looking man in the neighborhood for a while. >> if it's who we think it is he has been -- he lives in the neighborhood. not on this street though but he lives around here. he has been -- he has always been -- kind of strange walking around at different times of the day, sometimes at night. >> i heard the scream and i opened the door and she go who that [bleep]. he trying to get the little girl. i jumped out of the bed, saw -- and drove around to see if i see him. didn't see nothing. maybe that was a good thing i didn't see nothing because things could have gotten real bad at that point because i

would have hurt him. >> reporter: police have released a sketch of the attacker. he is described as latino, 25 to 35 years old, 5'10'' with a medium build. he has black hair, brown eyes and a mustache and wore a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with a hood, blue pants and brown work shoes with white paint on them. he did speak english. the man who lives in this house if we come back here live says that he has surveillance video and people -- we have talked -- police will be taking a look at that video. we have seen it. it confirm this is was an attempted kidnapping and shows the girl running out of frame. now behind me here if you take a look over there where the man is standing there is a fence right there and that's where apparently the attacker hid for a while before he popped up and snagged the girl and tried to drag her away. we will be in contact with police this morning and let you know if we have new information

to pass along to you. >> squatters may be to blame for a house fire in oakland. that started just before 5:30 at an an abandoned home. it took about three hours to put the fire out. firefighters say squatters may have gone inside the home to get out of the rain. two people who escaped the fire were rescued from a roof. >> one of them said they were all together and they had -- they showed each other what route, which way to go out. >> reporter: they were detained for questioning but no arrests were made. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> investigators trying to find why a san jose woman known as the candy lady was killed. police found her in her home yesterday. she had been shot at least once and later died at the hospital. neighbors say that she was well known because she sold candy and snacks to children out of her apartment. >> you know upset and

surprised and shocked but -- this world we live in is full of bad people but -- nothing we can do is pray and hope for the best for the family. >> the death is the city's second homicide of the year. police don't have a motive or suspect. this morning police are still searching for suspects in a shooting that hurt two teens. it happened early yesterday afternoon. underneath the bart tracks. witnesses spotted several young men running the scene after the gun fire. one of the teen victims had surgery overnight and is now in stable condition. the other was only grazed and wasn't seriously hurt. the shooting led to a brief lockdown. >> some homeowners in sunset are paving their yards to have a place to park. the practice is actually illegal but few homeowners are cited. paveed over yards can cause problems during storms. >> having greenery also

absorbs water that doesn't run into the storm drains and overwhelm the sewers. >> the planning commission said it's received 163 complaints about paveed over yards since 2002. san francisco city workers are rallying against proposed pay cuts. about 150 food service, clerical and health care workers protested at san francisco city hall last night. they say city administrators have proposed cutting wages for job that are normally held by women and minorities. >> be fair. be fair with the people that live in this city. especially that were born and raised in the city. give us a chance to live our lives here. >> reporter: the pay cut would affect almost 4,000. the dispute will go to ash administration if arbitration.

>> a lawsuit challenging the extension not to extend the lease of the drake's bay oyster company. it's suing after ken salazar ruled they should be closed so the area could return to wilderness. the bay has been in operation for almost a hundred years. it provides 40% of the state's supply of oysters. fremont officials are scheduled to meet today to discuss if they will approve expansion plans for a temple. some say they are fed up with the traffic and people parking illegally during prayer services and holidays. if approved the temple would almost double in size. saint anthony's dining hall will hold a ground breaking ceremony today. they have served 39 million

meals in the last 62 years. many local leaders and supporter also be on hand for today's ceremony. >> san francisco police have released new surveillance video in hopes of catching two men charged in robbing pharmacies. you can see them -- the suspects jumping over the store counter and forcing customers to the floor. one had a gun and held it to a employee. there are still photographs of the two. they are believed to be in their 20s. >> let's go to sal with traffic and you are looking at the golden gate bridge. >> that's right. the bridge. we have a stalled truck heading up north which is the direction that we normally don't see. they only have two lanes going that way. take a live look at that bridge picture. southbound traffic looks good, northbound, looks like they may be clearing it because just a few moments ago i was looking at slow traffic and now its

santa cruz earlier today we are watching a few scattered showers but looks like it's tapered off. bits of moisture in the forecast. maybe a little bit of drizzle. the lingering showers will continue with us. 52 right now in oakland. 51 haywood. areas of fairfield, antioch and dealing patchy fog and visibility is poor. half moon bay between a mile and two miles. pretty widespread, take it easy and expect it along the highways this morning. i want to pull that back and show you that the center of this storm off the coast -- the wrap around moisture will bring the threat of a few scattered showers. this is what you can expect. temperatures in the mid to upper 40s to low 50s so not to bad though we are most legrow it'll feel cool. widespread 50s for lunch and

then into the afternoon upper 50s, low 60s. 60 degrees expected for san francisco today, 63 haywood, low 60s napa, getting to about 60 concord and livermore. san jose 63 for you. the extended forecast, temperatures will remain on the mild side in the overnight hours, afternoon highs for tomorrow -- mix of sun and clouds and low 60s in the forecast. in to the weekend though notice a bit of a cooling trend. a system pulling the gulf of alaska will slide over, bring us a slight chance for rain leaving unsettled weather for saturday and sunday and the afternoon highs, struggling to get into the near 60-degree mark. mid to upper 50s expected. >> on saturday san mateo law hope to get guns off the streets. the sheriff's office will hold a gun buy back event on south delaware street. $100 for hand guns, shot guns

claims fell again. they are at their lowest level since january of 2008, 330,000 people filed for first time unemployment insurance. that's down 5,000 from the week before, experts had expect that number to climb because of people working holidays. now apple's headquarters, checking in on its stock it's a big story and the stock is down $52 a share off 10%. that's after reporting flat earnings after yesterday's closing bell. surprising -- not making their numbers. investors were disappointed. ashton kutcher is scheduled to appear in san francisco next week. he will be talking about his role playing the late steve jobs. he is scheduled to open the conference with a panel discussion about the film mac world starts next thursday. it opens in april.

>> time now 7:45 and a former elementary schoolteacher has been arrested on child sex abuse charges. police there may have been at least 20 victims. we the former child act for who was the voice of charlie brown has made his first court appearance on stalking charges. he pled not guilty. the 56-year-old threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and a doctor. >> he stated he would continue to hit the dog until she agreed to go with him. the victim declined and he grabbed her by the neck. >> robin's was nine when he was cast as charlie brown but was replaced when he turned 14. his voice can be heard in classic specials including it's the great pumpkin. >> an autopsy is scheduled today on the body of a man found along the shoreline.

the coroner identified him as a 28-year-old paul chu. his body was found yesterday morning. the body was clothed. they are looking to see if he drowned. san jose police have found two large clues from a home invasion this week. several armed men burst into an elderly couple's home on monday, investigators have now recovered the two cars that were taken from the house. one car was found at the reservoir while the other was dumped near gilroy. they tied the couple up, made off with their jewelry, electronics and the two cars. >> former elementary schoolteacher in los angeles has been arrested on child sex abuse charges. let's go to bob who is there. he says police think there may have been 20 victims. >> reporter: yes. 20 victims including one adult employee of the school district, perhaps another staff

member here at this school. this is in wilmington. it's a largely hispanic community. the school district which is the second largest in the country has really been rocked by allegations of sexual misconduct for about the past year now and because parents have been talking to students from are students back in march at this school that came forward. these are seven, 4th grader that came forward and said they were inappropriately touched by a teacher and then a to month long investigation by the lapd. yesterday a 57-year-old former teacher here, a 4th grade teacher was arrested. now immediately after the allegations the school district did remove him from the classroom. the teacher actually retired immediately after that and that's so he could get his pension and benefits. again arrested yesterday at his home in newport beach at one in the afternoon. he faces eight counts of continue all sexually abuse and

seven count s of lewd acts he has been with the district for nearly 40 years. there could be more charges filed. there is a meeting morning scheduled about 8:15 as you may imagine parents who were just told yesterday are very shocked have many questions. >> reporting los angeles. thank you. san francisco woman accused of a deadly hit and run is scheduled to appear in court this morning. the 23-year-old faces charges including manslaughter and driving under the influence causing injury. she is a is a accused of hitting pedestrians in the twin peaks area. one died. subway is being sued over claims its foot long doesn't measure up. this picture showing one being

>> happening now crews in marin are busy cleaning up after a big water main break. it was first reported after two. paul chambers was the first reporter on the scene. he is live from near sir francis drake boulevard. >> reporter: good morning. clean unis in full way as you can cement crews behind us doing all they can to repair the area. they have been out for an hour now. they are working to repair a roadway compromised after a water main pipe gave way. it's located under the roadway. >> it looks like it started with the hydrant. whether somebody hit it or it had a problem we don't know. >> reporter: around 2:15 -- after the fire department got a call of water flooding the roadway. firefighters say that the water was jetting about at least eight feet in the air. crews were able to get that off

as they shut off a nearby valve. still the water was coming out at 1500-gallons a minute for an hour and a half. surprisingly this main is more than 60 years old but that's not a big deal. >> we have pipe that are 100 years old. we have older pipes. it's possible that maybe some of the service lines like the lines running to consumer homes could be damaged. normally it's just the break is isolated. >> so crews will work throughout the morning. repairs are expected to last from eight to ten hours. the repair also inconvenience about 14 houses. at this time it wasn't but right now the roadway is closed off. cars going around the area. we will stay out here and keep you up to date.

. welcome back. we have new information about the search for the man who tried to kidnap a 13-year-old girl. tara has been talking to neighbors who live in the area where the attempted kidnapping took place and she has learned about a possible new lead. >> reporter: two more neighbors have come forward to say they think they have seen this man before but many people in the little neighborhood said they didn't even know about the case until last night and that's because police withheld the information until yesterday because they want to make sure the case was real. that was after a hoax claiming a woman who tried to snatch her child last week. neighbors heard the screams, on east saint james and east 33ered. they say a man tried to kidnap a 13-year-old on her way to school. the girl saw the man following her and she called her friend. the man then tried to grab her.

he dragged her down a driveway but she was able to break free. now neighbors say it was time to catch thes. >> we have seen him around here. normally when i see a man like this it's -- he looks like is he wearing work clothes. i would think he was waiting for somebody and a lot of people around here that's what they do. >> i heard her scream. it's horrible to hear a child scream like that. >> reporter: police have released a sketch. he is latino, 25 to 35, five foot ten with a medium build, had black hair, brown eyes and a mustache. he wore a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue pants and brown work shoe was white paint on them. he did speak english and a man who lives in a house nearby does have some surveillance video. he is going to be share that with police later today.

they haven't had a chance to talk a look at it yet. we have seen the video and it shows a little girl running the frame pretty much proving what police were hoping for, that this was indeed a real claim that the girl was -- this was an attempted kidnapping. we are live in san jose. >> all right. thank you. new, a bird strike has forced a southwest airlines flight to make an emergency landing. it happened about an hour and a half ago. officials say that the pilot hit a flock of birds after take off. the flight which was headed to ontario landed safely at airport. all passengers were remove from the plane and put on other flights. oakland man is facing felony charges after police say he pointed a laser at a chp plane. it happened last night on international boulevard. the plane was flying over an area where police were searching for a man who shot and injured a police officer.

the crews were able to direct officers on the ground to a home where the suspect was arrested. >> squatters may be to blame for i fire in oakland. it started just before 5:30 yesterday evening. took about three hours to put that fire out. firefighters say squatters may have gone inside the home to get out of the rain. two people who escaped the fire were rescued from a roof next door. they were detained for questioning but no arrests were made, the cause of the fire is still being investigated. also this morning investigators are trying to figure why a woman known as the candy lady was killed. police found the woman in her home yesterday afternoon. she had been shot, she died at the hospital. neighbors say she was well known because she sold candy and snacks to children out of her apartment. >> she had a little table, like a coffee table. she had all the sodas and like her kit cats and everything

. dow up 91 points. the s&p500 at 1501. it's hitting 1500 for the first time since 2007. good news there for the indexes today. the faa said boeing's 787 won't be flying again until they figure out what caused several safety problems including fires and that the problems are fixes. all 50 in service have been grounded for more than a week but the congressman who represents the district where boeing builds its planes said he has been told that the problem will be fixed and that the planes will fly again very soon. and delta is talking with being about buying a billion dollars worth of jets.

delta said its looking to cut costs by retiring some of its less efficient planes. >> let's get you updated on some of the top stories. john kerry is at his first confirmation hearing. again this is a live look at the hearing. he is expected to be confirmed. he would take over for hillary clinton who is stepping down after four years. in about ten minutes, we will go live to the state capitol. the governor will give his third state of the state address. he is expected to talk about california dream. crews in marin are cheaping up after a huge water main break. they have been covering the story since 4:30. he joins us with the update.

>> good morning. clean up is in full effect right now. they have been out for little more than two hours but have made a lot of progress. a lot of the roadway is dug up. that's where the four inch main broke and was attached to a fire hydrant, not sure if it gave way or if someone struck it. we are taking a look at video here. started around 2:15. after the fire department got a call of water flooding the roadway. once on scene firefighters say the water was jetting out at least eight feet. crews were able to get that to taper off but it still was coming out at about 1500- gallons a minute for about on hour and a half. crews digging up the roadways to repair the main. this main that broke is more than 60 years old but out here that's not a big deal. >> we have pipe that are 100 years old. we have older pipes.

it's possible that maybe some of the service lines, like the lines running to consumer homes could be damaged. normally it's just the break is isolated. >> now crews will work throughout the morning and until the afternoon because repairs are expected to last from eight to ten hours. if you come back out, the repairs will inconvenience about 14 households to be without power. they have been out for about two hours, they have done a lot of work, they will dig up the entire roadway in this area and basically repair it to figure out what caused it. of course we will stay on top of this -- but of course they will be out here to at least some time this afternoon trying to work on that roadway. they say there is no problem and it's not compromised. they just have to dig it up and repair it. >> a task force in connecticut looking in to the sandy hook school shooting has it's first meeting today. the commission will hear today

from experts. the 16 member panel is supposed to give the governor a list of recommendations regarding school safety, mental health and gun violence prevention. new this morning diane fine stain is resuming her fight for a ban on assault weapons. she has introduced a bill on the floor of the senate to stop the sale, transfer and making of weapons. >> fall in to the hands one way or another of gangs, those who are mentally unstable or ill. they are sold out of trunks and backseats of cars in cities and gun show was no s with no questions asked. she introduced a similar measure in 93 after a mass shooting at a san francisco law firm. >> some parents of one school district are questioning the buying of more than a dozen

assault weapons. the fontana district bout 14 assault weapons. representatives say that it's to protect students in the event of attack and they will be kept in locked safes on campus for responding police officers. some parents are concern that students could find a way to access them and say district funds shouldn't be spent on weapons. now the weapons cost a thousand dollars each. on saturday san m ateo law enforcement hope to get guns off the street. they will hold a buy back on south delaware street. $100 for hand guns, shot guns and rifles, 200 for assault weapons and people will not have to give their names. this morning the vice president is teaming up with google for an online public forum on gun control. its part of an ongoing series of fire side hang outs.

that's a take on roosevelt's fire side chats on the radio. the vice president is in charge of a task force formed to come up with ways to reduce gun violence after the connecticut school shooting. san francisco police have released new surveillance video in hopes of catching two men robbing drugstores. they robbed them last week. you can see the suspects jumping over the store counter forcing people on the floor. one of them held a gun to an employee. if here are still photographs of the two men believed to be in their 20s. >> a hearing is scheduled tomorrow on a lawsuit challenging the decision over the drake's bayous oyster company. it's suing after the inside secretary ruled that the farm should be closed so that the area return to the wilderness. its been operating for almost a

hundred years. it provides as much as 40% of the state's supply of fresh oysters. fremont officials scheduled to discuss if they will approve expansion plans for a temple. some who live near are opposed to it. they say that they are upset with traffic and people parking illegally. if the proposal is a proved the temple would almost double in size. san francisco's longest running free meals program is getting a new home. they will hold a ground breaking ceremony for the new meal center. that center will include housing for some of the neediest senior citizens. they have served 39 million breakfast, lunches and dinners in the last 62 years, many will be there for today's ceremony. new this morning, opening arguments began in the trial of five men accused in a gang rape in india. they covered their face as those walked in to the courtroom. prosecutors say that they beat
